The Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Loyola Hearn, has charged the Captain and 1st Officer of the Farley Mowat with the horrible “crime” of approaching to close to a seal slaughter without permission of the Minister of Fisheries.
Mr. Hearn has also threatened to forcible board the Farley Mowat and arrest the crew and tow the ship back to port.
One problem here… The Farley Mowat is a DUTCH registered ship with a DUTCH captain and a Swedish 1st Officer and they are sailing in international waters outside of the 12 mile limit. Technically, his would be an act of war against the Dutch. At best it would be an act of piracy on the high seas.
The Canadian Coast Guard have already proved how imcompetent they are at commanding a ship at sea by causing the deaths of four sailors when they towed their flimsy aluminum hulled fishing boat at excessive speed through pack ice causing the little boat to ride up on the broken ice and capsize… They continued to tow the capsized boat for several minutes before they noticed!
All this was at night and as four sailors were below decks asleep… they had no chance of escape.
The Farley Mowat is presently navigating in international waters with the intent to document atrocities by Canadian sealers.
Does the Canadian Coast Guard have the training and the experience to conduct a dangerous boarding at sea?
What will be the European reaction to this assault and especially if any of the Farley Mowat’s crew are hurt or worse?
“I cannot allow the Coast Guard to place my ship under tow,” said Captain Cornelissen. “They have demonstrated that they can not competently tow a ship and have admitted they don’t have any guidelines for towing a ship through the ice. I have no intention of putting my crew in the same dangerous situation that the unfortunate sealers from the Magdalen Islands were placed in. If they cannot protect their own they certainly can’t be depended upon to protect our lives.”

[..YouTube..] There are rules against being that close to the sealers, and it is obvious that the Farley Mowat were breaking those rules. And it’s not like the Farley Mowat has never done anything like that. People seem to ignore that fact though.

Not in place to protect the seals I might add.. but to stop people documenting the seal hunt without an official permit.
Permits are not given out… essentially preventing the outside world from knowing about the slaughter.
Also note that at the end of the video the Coast Guard ship is seen charging forward infront of the Farlwy Mowat and coming very close to the sealers on the ice.

[..YouTube..] Well, it seems to me that the yacht was in Canadian waters at some point ie. when they were near the sealers.
The “Seal Protection Act” is put there so that people like these on the boat won’t be able to get in the face of the sealers. I think most people can agree that we don’t want people over our shoulders while working, especially people against our work. And it only looks like the Coast Guard came close to the sealers from that angle. I’m sure another angle would show otherwise.

qwuad60: You dont by chance work for the Canadian Coast Guard do you? Because that’s much like what the Canadian Coast Guard did to Seal Hunters (capsized them & caused 4 people to die) under the supervision of Loyola Hearn.
So far, out the 1 side of Loyola Hearn’s mouth he tells you he is protecting SealHunters (from cameras, you must not be very attractive), but under his orders his own team has killed 4 of you. (Seashep none)

I have searched everywhere but can not find them. I wonder why that is… Come on CCG, tell us the coordinates, all it takes is a quick glance at your GPS / nav chart. You guys DID get trained to read charts didn’t you? If not, that might explain your mistake.

[..YouTube..] The coordinates are logged & recorded in the GPS unit aboard the ship. Which the police swat unit confiscated. It’s now in evidence. The DFO & Canadian authorities however, let ALL the Sea Shepherd people go, without prosecution. And they deported the Captain & 1st mate (even though they were not IN Canada to begin with & were Forced in thru customs). But they let everyone go with No Charges because if it went to trial, they’d have to reveal the evidence, which shows they were outside the limit.

[..YouTube..] IF a Sealer tells you they use resources or food its BS. Follow the math. DFO 2005 states 290,000 seals were taken, 31,000 had flippers cut off, & 6,700 kilos of meat taken
Weight of 1 seal: 34kg baby to 140kg adult. So Avg 88kg. Minus pelt, bones = 44kg meat
So if they killed 290,000 seals, that killed 44 x 290K = over 12 million kilos of meat they should have
But report says only 6 thousand kilos of meat. THAT MEANS they WASTED over 24 MILLION POUNDS OF SEALS LEFT TO Rot ON THE ICE!

Three men died and one remains lost at sea after L’Acadien II flipped over while it was under tow early Saturday from a Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker.
“The coast guard sunk them,” said Damien Deraspe, Aucoin’s brother-in-law.

only beaters are taken average weight 25kg ….60% of a seal is pelt and blubber…flippers which are taken are the same as the shoulders(hams) on a cow(his flipper #s are SOLD #s most are eaten by locals not sold) …only the ribs and entrails are left, gutted carcase-flippers =spine and ribs

“waswitdat69″ was caught posting fraudulent video wherein pro sealers falsely claimed defenders cheered “the dead body of a fishermen/sealer dragged across the deck of a ship”. In actuality the footage was not a dead sealer, it was in fact a member of Sea Shepherd! And no one was dead, and the footage was from 2005, not 2008, & misappropriated off the Sea Shepherd website site. The user “waswitdat69″ now has action against them.

[..YouTube..] This wasn’t a ramming. When two hulls travelling parallel come close, the water between them travels faster, causing a low pressure zone that sucks the hulls together. This is the Bernoulli principle.
And Coast Guard and Naval vessels should be given a wide berth, anyway.
That said, I still appreciate your effort to enforce the regulations they don’t care to enforce.
